Working Bee, Meeting & IFAA 25/10/14

We got a few jobs done on Saturday morning in preparation for our shoot on the 29th of November. Before the shoot we had a quick meeting to discuss arrangement for hosting the Branch E Christmas Shoot. Everything is in hand and we have our next club meeting on the 15/11/14 followed the next week with a working bee on 22/11/14. We only had a small field of starts to shoot 14 targets of IFAA field . Scores are out of 280 and at marked distances out to 80 yards shooting 56 arrows. Dan 2 has joined the longbow crew with a newly purchased longbow and spent the afternoon building character. The weather was pretty hot and it was a baptism of fire for those who hadn't shot a round of IFAA before.

ABA 3 Arrow 18/10/14

A great day was had by all as we shot the Goanna Range in perfect conditions. Of the 18 archers we had 3 recurves and 2 long bows. Some impressive scores were shot with Stuart shooting a very respectable 232 with Dan's longbow. Dan managed to tie with Alex on 286, both with recurves. Dan has bought another bow. Bets are on to see what he turns up with next week.
Gary gave everyone a lesson with an impressive 392 Freestyle Unlimited. Great shooting.
But...undoubtedly the happiest archer of the day was Kathy with a massive PB of 384 a huge effort. Apparently her husband shoots too and to her great excitement he only scored 382.

Next weekend we are having a working bee Saturday morning from 9:00 for those that can make it to sort out the new container and do a little cleaning up before our branch shoot at 29th & 30th November. We will also have a short meeting to discuss details for that weekend. We will be shooting 14 Targets of IFAA in the afternoon.

3 Arrow ABA on Goanna Range 20/09/14

A small group of keen archers turned out for the regular Saturday afternoon 3arrow ABA. Welcome to Stuart who shot a great score for his 2nd time out. The 2 old boys made it up the hill and rolled back to the clubhouse leaving everyone to finish without them. Great to see Mike with a bow in his hand again. Yes he does actually shoot. New member Ben spent the day on the practice butts after a little "bow reconstruction".

Great Weekend At Manning District Bowhunters Branch E ABA Shoot.13th & 14th September

Last weekend 11 Macleay Valley Archers travelled to Taree for their Branch E ABA Shoot. They had  a total of 87 shooters turn up for the weekend. Every body seemed to shoot a little hot & cold as we shot all 3 of their ABA ranges over 2 days. Taree put on their usual friendly hospitality along with great facilities to make for a enjoyable weekend. Standout for the weekend was Kathy with an excellent 756 2 arrow round on Sunday about 100 points over her personal best. Scores were,

Visit From Bellingen Archers

We had the pleasure of hosting a visit from Bellingen Archers on the weekend. Bellingen is a target based club and they took the opportunity to try out some IFAA and ABA field archery. Everyone appeared to have a great day with a lot of fun had by all. It was a social shoot with the emphasis on trying out the new format and having the chance to mix with other archers.
On Saturday morning we shot an International Round on the IFAA range. That involves 10 targets with 3 arrows per target out of 150 total. Scores were quite good with many positive comments about our new IFAA range.

Score for the morning were

After a lovely lunch of steak sandwich we had the choice of shooting a round of ABA (out of 400) on the Goanna Range or a full 14 target round of IFAA Field, (out of 280), on the Yowie range.
Our visitors seemed to love the challenge of field archery and went away at the end of the day discussing what they could do at their club to provide a field range.

Scores for the afternoon were,

Working Bee & ABA Shoot Saturday 30th

Last Saturday we had our monthly meeting. It was too wet again to shoot. We are hoping it will clear up this weekend as we will be having a working bee on Saturday from 9:00. We will still be shooting in the afternoon as long as it stops raining.

Club Meeting and BBQ on 23rd August

Well ... not much to report from last week due to the wet miserable weather. Those who turned up did not go far from the fire and shot a few indoor arrows. Except for a 3 crazy souls who ventured out but it too wet to score. They must have been long bowers.
Next Saturday 23rd August we will be having a club meeting after the regular shoot at around 4:30. All members are encouraged to attend and have a say. There will also be a BBQ and salad available after the meeting for anyone interested. A good chance to socialise after the meeting.

ABA Shoot 09/08/14 New Fireplace and Long Bows Galore

Well Saturday saw a beautiful sunny hot day. Just perfect to make use of our new fireplace in our covered area. Thank you Dave & Felicity for the donation.
In honour of the wood we will burn in the new fire place every where you look there were long bows.
5 in all. It's great to see everyone enjoying the skill of the longbow. I might have to invest in one myself.
On one short group 2 target at about 14 metres both long bowers I shot with got an A to my B. So much for technology. Well done Tim & Gordon. Even Dan shot his longbow in practice and has committed to shooting it on the range after the next shoot at Taree.

Glenn moved a few targets around this week and we shot a 3 arrow round on the Anthill. Notable scores were Dan 388 (again) Tim 274 longbow off the green peg. Great shooting. But he still wasn't happy. Justin shot a PB 324. Just wait till we sort his draw length out. Leah shot 230 and Robyn shot 240. Both off the yellow peg. I can see there might be a bit healthy of rivalry developing here.

Don't forget we will be having a club meeting on 23/08/14 after the shoot and the rumour is there will be food....Stay Tuned.

ABA shoot 02/08/14 & 3D shoot at Singleton

Cec, Glenn, Gloria & Mike all travelled down the SAS (Singleton Archery Society) Branch 3D shoot and all had a great time. The 3D shoots use life size "rubber" targets at distances from 20 metres out to 48 metres. The scoring zones on these targets are smaller than on our usual paper targets and are a very different challenge.
Those that turned up at Tamban shot a 3 arrow ABA round on the Anthill range. Dan again shot well with a 388 and

It Blew A Dog Off It's Chain.

Well..things were a bit windy at the range on Saturday. Plenty of archers turned up to huddle behind any shelter that could be found. It was too windy to light a fire, so everyone had to stay rugged up. This may be solved shortly with the installation of a slow combustion wood heater and some removable panelling around our shelter. Stay tuned.
Well some fool forgot to take down all the scores of the board so I will wing it. We decided to shoot a one arrow round so we could all get back quickly to thaw out. I do know that Dan again smashed it with a 392. A very good score in windy conditions. it was great to see another new archer as Hayden had  very respectable first round. Kathy had 6 layers of clothes on and looked like the Michelin man and apparently did not cope well with the wind. Sarah has her heart set on a new longbow and is improving with her recurve. Jarrah has a new bow and seems impressed with it. I'm sure he will shoot some good scores once he has it fully set up.  Everyone else seemed to enjoy the day and Gloria's biscuits.

Next week we will be shooting 14 targets of IFAA on Saturday afternoon on the new range. For the uninitiated there are 14 targets from 7 Yards out to 80 yards and 4 arrows shot at each target. At least you know the distances but 4 shots at each target really shows any weaknesses in your form.

A big thank you to Alistair and Gary for all their hard work. We have had some IFAA targets in the past but hopefully this new 14 target range will see a heightened interest in IFAA and we can look to installing another 14.

Sunday, June 29, 2014

The rain held off long enough for 14 archers to finish a challenging 3 arrow ABA round on the Goanna Range on Saturday 28/06/14. Scores were a little low as most found the range very challenging. One archer who will remain nameless also had difficulty deciding which pin to shoot on the difficult, long group 5 downhill target resulting in a miss. Sarah continues to improve and despite shooting an unsighted recurve with 3 experienced sighted compound shooters, she managed to take the honours on target with the only A on target 11. Vera made a comeback after a couple of months not shooting and made a respectable score.  Dan made a few changes to his setup and had it sorted out by the end of the day.
Next week we will have 6 archers travelling to Gunnedah for the Northern Branch ABA titles but there will still be plenty of starters at Tamban so make sure you get out to the range for a shot.

Well the weather was a bit iffy but we had 13 hardy souls turnout in drizzly weather for a 3 arrow ABA round on Saturday 21/06. We shot the Anthill Range with a few younger archers to keep the old boys in check. Al shot a 394 closely followed by Garry with a 390. Great shooting from Tim who put down his longbow to struggled with his wheeled beast for a respectable 334. All the new shooters fared well. Jayden, Steve, Calum, Sarah and Jarrah all shot well. Calum was particularly keen on the campfire crumpets with golden syrup after the shoot.
Remember there is the next branch shoot at Gunnedah in 2 weeks so make sure you put your name on the sheet to pre nom next week at the club.

What's Been Happening.

Well we have returned after the Christmas break and through January and February the International Indoor Mail Match has been run on our Indoor/Outdoor range at Tamban. The shooting line is under cover and the targets are under cover so it qualifies as an indoor range. Our shooters have to deal with cross wind which don't usually happen indoors. Alistair has been the standout with several perfect 300 scores. This comp is a world wide competition where clubs run the shoots and the scores are sent in from all over the world. Best of luck to our competitors.
The shoot calendar (Below to the right) has been updated. Our next branch shoot is on 1st of March in Maitland. It was meant to be at Gunnedah but their ranges were destroyed by a bushfire. I am sure it won't take them long to get back up and going with offers of help from other clubs including MVA.
We have a lot of new archers over the last few weeks and they all seem to be  enjoying themselves and shooting very well.

We're Baaaaack!

After some technical hiccups and issues we have realigned the planets and the blog is back.
