Well after much ado I still can't work out how to attach the theme song, so drop me an Email and I will send it to you.

2nd leg of the eco shoot 25/8/12 2 arrow round

Oh what a lovely club this is. This week they have handed their blog over to the Macleay Valley Longbow Association. I must say both of our members would like to thank MVA for this kind offer.
Just a couple of observations up front. 1.It took 15 seconds to get ready. 2. Glued on points tend to come loose after 26 years.3.  Four arrows is not quite enough. 4. I can have all my arrows on the way to anything longer than a series three before the first one lands. 5. Do not, I repeat do not get to target 17 and announce proudly that you haven't lost any arrows, as no matter how far target 17 is you will loose an arrow. 6. You can shoot long wooden sticks, shorter carbon shafts or medium length alloys all with different spines, out of the same longbow and get the same result. 7. Hitting the butt is reason for wild celebration. 8. getting 40 on a long series 4 target almost causes one to wet his pants with excitement and smug satisfaction. 9. At target seven I scored 34 and more than doubled my score for the round so far, try that with your fancy compounds.10. longbows make a practical way of providing shade to scope users without putting yourself in any danger.simply hang hat on longbow and then lean across to needed area. 11. We have our own theme song. Which I will try to post on here some where. 12. Nobody expects you to hit anything.
and finally coming last is like a badge of honor. Moving on to less important matters. Granddad had a Robin hood last week. Coins Broke 2 arrows this week and the asked Cola Karen if he could have more. Then in an act of bravado or stupidity beat her by two. Due to the fact I was wondering around in a world of my own I don't really know what else happened. Nearly for got SWR Brad nearly chopped his arm in half. simply amazing what a small piece of string can do to bare flesh, he liked it so much he did it twice.
Scores. ABA Eco- shoot 18/8/12

Well is this late or what. As you know we had visitors over the weekend so the time I set aside to do the blog came but not in the usual way. Monday was a blur of ABA stuff, bed and eating. Tuesday our son & I went to Sydney and back. Gee I simply am not as young as I used to be, so once again it was tea then bed.The club shot a 2 arrow both score round as part of the ABA national Eco shoot. Martin Mcfly returned a very impressive 780 and Cola Karen was in hot pursuit with a 772. Granddad was having trouble beating Cupcake and in a moment of triumph broke her arrow rest when she wasn't looking, so that got rid of her.( only joking) From the evidence before me it would seem that the more senior members of the club really missed Teabag, how else do you explain Coins at 754, Granddad670 and  BP 612. Dean & Sean Irvine had a great family tussel with the senior member of the family triumphant in the end. Liam who has trouble shooting with dad balanced the father son win loss ratio when he crept past Bruce Chris & Nic both shot impressive rounds. Stewart shot a solid 470. well done to all.
Scores:
Martin Mcfly 780, Cola Karen 772, Coins Alastair 754, Frosty Chris 688, Nick 680, Granddad 670, BP Glenn 612, Diamond Dean 566, Opal Sean 540, BC Liam 514, yellow peg Stewart 470, Leach Bait Bruce 488, Cupcake DNF
Cheers everybody.

Club working bee 18th August

Working Bee - 18 August 2012

This Saturday morning there is a planned working bee.  Club bows and arrows are in need of repair in preparation for the Come and Try day, as well as other work around the club. Kick off is at 10am.

ABA 11/8/12

It was blowing dogs off chains but that didn't deter the Macleay archers last weekend. While the wind played havoc on the practice butts, it was a little kinder out on the range. A new sight for Nic had him posting a personal best, beating his previous 2012 result by over a hundred points, and that was without having had the time to set it up correctly. What will he manage next week? Perhaps he will beat his Dad - it was a close thing on Saturday and they ended up tying. Our two newest visitors, Shannon and Jake, came out again despite the weather, so they are obviously keen to get into archery.

Scores (Max 400): Alastair Smedley 374, Karen Smedley 366, Chris Garrett 326, Nic Garrett 326 (PB), Ray McMannus 296, Bruce Crawford 294, Jake McElwaine 288, Shannon Brown 284, Liam Crawford 282

400 score day unbelievable 4/8/12

Hi all, sorry this is late we had family commitments yesterday and when we got home the bushfire behind us was really close, the valley was full of smoke and we could see the flames roaring away. I guestimate about 500-700meters away. We could hear the crackle and hear trees falling plus the hills were a lovely orange glow. We readied the car and caravan, worked out who would drive what and to where, Got a few clothes ready and made a mental note about the computers plus photo albums brought the dog inside, Plus slept in our clothes just in case. Nothing like a real situation to make you focus on what's important to you. This morning we can still see smoke, but a heavy dew plus cold night have helped. Hopefully we wont have any wind.
Saturday was shot in true Olympic spirit we had 22 shooters turn up and everybody seemed to have a good time. Flight 1 is the highest grade you can get in our sport if you use sights, whilst we all strive for that goal only a few make it. I think our club has 3 senior and 1 junior flight 1 shooters. You need to get over 380 several times to obtain this grade.
Now Cola Karen has been knocking at the door and this week returned a PB of 388. Her excitement was palpable  as not only was it a solid flight 1 but is usually enough to win the day. Karens eyes darted to the board every time a top archer returned. Her husband Alastair was first with a 386, Brett was next with a 384 , things were looking good Dion had a bad shoot, so that left only Feathers Dave, who has been running hot over the last few weeks. Dave's  was the last score posted, followed by stunned silence, then a ripple of excitement and loud long applause.
I looked at the board blinked, clapped and stood stunned. Feathers Dave had just returned a perfect score 400 out of 400. It was also a PB. As far as I know this is only the second time this has been done at our club in many many years and the first one on the Goanna range. Alastair has achieved this feat on the anthill range.
There are so many variables in archery that 400 is really a very hot score and everything has to go right on the day.
Dave congratulations from us all, really well done.
