Well the previous weeks archery was washed out by a huge thunder storm, and this weeks shooting was also hampered by the weather.  Although eight shooter went out, only five completed, returning to the club house completely soaked but still in high spirits.

We extend a warm welcome to Vince Schubert as our latest new member.  Vince spent time Saturday morning with coach Gary Nichols before braving the rain to shoot in the one-arrow round, producing a very respectable score.

This coming weekend is the Branch Christmas Shoot near Taree, so we wish all the travellers every success.

Results (max 400):

Martin Ussher 380, Alastair Smedley 376; Gary Nichols 376; Vera Nichols 336, Vince Schubert 250

394, 394, 394, and so it goes.
What can I say Brett shot a 394 on a day when most struggled to get their average. Really, really well done. Once again we had lots of new faces and I think I saw several membership forms being handed out. The working bee was in full swing when I arrived, Thanks to all who helped. Screens were built, leaves and dust moved about, several bales were packed. All in all a good result. A few new shots have been added to the Goanna range, the talk would indicate that one off them is a great challenge to the skill set. Personally I didn't get that far, so can't talk from experience. Nice to see our ladies group getting larger in number.
Scores for the day.

3 arrow round 21/9/13

Busy weekend this was. For some reason archery all around Australia is experiencing a massive up surge in interest and we at MVA are no exception. This week we had 20 starters and I only new about 6 of them. PB's were the order of the day and Peels of laughter rang around the ranges. I have no idea what was going on.
The new toilets are starting to look finished, the internal walls are in and painted/ The urinal is working and all in all things are looking good. A Big thank you to all involved. Cec, Peter, Garry Alastair and Gloria have all done their bit and I have probably missed a couple. No offence intended.

There is a working Bee next Sat am. so don't be shy.
If you are interested in entering the teams challenge please get your teams together, At a rough count we should manage 4-5 teams.
Gloria & I will be away most of October on branch business. So the blog will be devoid of information. If somebody else wants the job now would be a good time to put your hand up.
Scores for the weekend.

31 August IFAA and ABA

Hi all,
Big day today we had the choice, Shoot the international IFAA round in the Am, Shoot the ABA 3 arrow in the PM or shoot both. I elected for 1 1/2 rounds. Glenn shot a magnificent 390 for the ABA round. Top shooting Glenn. Seems all my advise has paid of. Actually the advice was simple "hit the 20" good coaching that.
Yet again the regulars were swamped by newbies. Not sure where all the interest is coming from but all clubs are reporting big increases.
Scores for the day IFAA:
Alastair 132, Gloria 116, Teabag 115.
ABA:
BP Glenn 390, Coins Alastair and Don't tie with me Brett 384, Granddad Cec 378, Cupcake Gloria 348, BC Liam 346, Blake 308PB, Jonty 292PB, Sneezy Kath 282, David 270, Clayton 258PB, Alex 244, Aiden 190, Teabag DNF..

2 arrow eco shoot 24/8/13

Quiet day at the old ranch this weekend. Several regulars were away trying to earn a $ so they can buy more goodies and probably food. Once again the members were out numbered by newcomers who wanted to give it a try. Even a little 4 month old arrived, By the colour of the clothes I'm guessing a girl, cute as a button she was as well. As I have said before great family sport this archery. As regular readers will now 390 is considered a fantastic score, so much so that the branch give out a badge to celebrate this milestone achievement. This week Alastair scored 780 which is simply fantastic shooting. Enough banging on about the top guns, let's now turn our attention to young Teabag, Several milestones here to brag about. Firstly he actually finished. Secondly he won his cup of tea from Granddad and thirdly he finished ahead of cupcake some would say thrashed them both, but that may be a slight exaggeration which would come back to haunt him down the track, suffice to say he won. YA HOO!!!

Kathy Hodgeman alias Sneezy scoreda massive 606. This girl has the makings of another husband beater, so watch out Brett or you will join the illustrious "Husbands who get beaten by their wives club."   Scores for the weekend:
Coins Alastair 790, Don't tie with me Brett 768, In third place TEABAG 690, Granddad Cec 688, Cupcake Gloria 608, Sneezy Kathy 606, Grey Nomad Bruce 494 BB, Jonty 484.

Eco shoot 17 August

With many archers attending an away shoot there were only three people that took part in the third round of the Eco Shoot last Saturday. It was still an eventful round with many arrows just cutting the scoring line or just missing it.  With each arrow counting to the total score, being on the wrong side of the line costs sixteen points straight away. The final round will be held on Saturday 24th August, starting at 1.30pm.

Coaches Alastair and Karen Smedley provided training to four new archers in the morning. A warm welcome to new members Mark and Dylan Parmenter who joined the club at the weekend.

Eco Shoot Scores (max 800): Karen Smedley 760, Alastair Smedley 760, Bruce Crawford 448.
See you all soon, and yes this is pinched from Karen.

Change of venue for branch IFAA titles

Hi All

Due to circumstances beyond their control Tuggerah have had to with draw as the host of the September shoot. This shoot has now been relocated to AVON Valley. It is the same weekend. Many thanks go to the Avon members for filling the gap at such short notice. Please advise your members of the change.

2 arrow shoot 9/8/13

The second Eco Shoot saw scores fluctuate during the round.  One miss is expensive, loosing 16 points straight away. Visitor Ken Smith found this out, by just over-estimating the distance slightly on one target three quarters of the way round he put the arrow above the score zone, resulting in no score. Until that point he had been going really well, then everything changed.

Liam Crawford has been working hard with coach Alastair Smedley, and improved his score on last week by over 140 points. Well done Liam.

The third round will be held on Saturday 17 August, starting at 1.30pm. Visitors are welcome between 10.30am and 12 noon; and equipment will be available.

Eco Shoot Scores (max 800): Brett Hodgman 772, Karen Smedley 770, Alastair Smedley 764, Ken Smith 756, Glen Freeman 700, Liam Crawford 700, Cec Apps 698, Ray McManus 546.

Totally pinched from the Argus , Thanks Karen.
this coming weekend will see a group of die hard's head off to Gunnedah

International IFAA & Eco shoot 3/8/13

Hi all, Big day we just had very pleasant and lots of arrows. We also had the Dynamic duo join. 2 little 8 year old twins are our latest members. Good on you dad for letting them have a go. Only 1 rule they are not allowed to beat the Tubby old bald fellow. Welcome to the club. Whilst on all things new  Macleay Valley Archers is a shooting club with weekly competitions. As a shooting club our insurer places some requirements upon us re what we can and can't do. As a result all visitors who wish to shoot must be there before Noon. We have to be satisfied that you can indeed shoot, before allowing you on the ranges. Arriving after noon is not fair to the volunteers who do the assessments and those that make up the shoot groups.

A word of warning, if you have the choice, do not shoot with Kiss of Death. He is pleasant to shoot with but frightfully expensive to all with him. To give you an idea what to expect a brief run down of Saturday arvo. Target 3 Kiss of Death (KOD) for short loses one of his own arrows, last seen heading just to the left of the space station. Target 6 KOD stands next to cup cake her arrow falls off bow, Knock still attached to string, very gloomy look on face. KOD 2, arrows nil. Target 10 KOD stands near Tea bag, Tea bag breaks arrow. KOD 3, arrows nil. Target 14 KOD pulls arrows from Butt all's good so far hands arrows to Cup Cake and Tea Bag, still all's good. KOD hands 2 arrows to Glenn who takes them lovingly in his right hand, holding them at the fletches. KOD lets go and as we all watch one of Glenn's arrows adopts a right angle bend and hangs limply in his hand. KOD 4, arrows nil. Proof positive that nobody or no thing stands a chance against the destructive powers that manifest them selves around KOD.

The club had Ken Smith visit for the weekend. Ken broke the unwritten rule by winning the morning round. Tea Bag beat the wife in the morning but she thrashed him in the Arvo I think she shoot a PB. All in all I think the top performance for the Day belonged to Sneezy Kath.  who shot a 500 from the red peg. Not only was this a PB it was the first time from the red peg and only a few shoots from her very first effort. Really well done Kath. I should mention Brett's PB a massive 778 Well done to all.

Scores IFAA: Ken 134, Garry 130, Alastair 129, Karen 125, Brett 118, Teabag 116, Gloria 111, Liam 81, Bruce 58 BB.

The archery Challenge IFAA this Sat 10.30

Hi All,
What a big day we have planned for this Saturday 3rd August Starting at 10:30am we will be shooting the International IFAA round. 10 targets 3 arrows per target. This round does NOT have the dreaded 80yard target, so no excuses. We are the proud owners of one of the best IFAA ranges in Australia, so come & give it a try. Followed in the Arvo by the Eco-shoot, 2 arrow round. Free shoulder massage to the winner.

3 arrow Ant hill range 27/7/13

Mama Mia, Mama Mia, My My, what a lovely day it was. Now that just shows how hard it is to keep coming up with superlatives that describe my Saturdays at the club. Pure Bliss.
This week we shot the Anthill range, well 9 of you did, I only shot the first 7. Which by the sounds of things was a very clever idea. Kiss of Death missed a target and drove the point back up the carbon shaft. Kiss of Death 1, arrows nil. I am told several targets caused havoc. One was a new shot that very cleverly deceived all who attempted it. The other was a tiny accident with the distance. I think Fingers better stay in the bale press next week. Oh well never mind. Scores for the day:
Don't tie with me Brett 380, Coins Alastair 370, BP Glenn 360, Home Brew Garry 356, Finger Ray 350 BB, Granddad Cec 346, Cup Cake Gloria 342, Kiss of Death Stewart 290, Jonty 88, Teabag DNF.
Whilst most shooters had a pretty dismal day score wise Fingers shot a fantastic Master's grade score Bare Bow. Just so happens that fingers set the course. But still a masters Bare bow score is something to be truly proud of. Well done Ray

3Arrow Goanna range 13/7/13

Happy me, I got to fling arrows in the bush with like minded people who I am happy to call my friends, mild temp. blue sky's, no wind. How oh how could this ever get better. Regular readers may remember a few weeks ago a few of us had a dig at Liam, who is a junior and suggested he man up and shoot from the adult peg, well Liam took us seriously and is now shooting from the adult peg. Sometimes in life we have ideas that in hindsight are just plain stupid and this is one of them. Liam go back to the cubs peg or the junior peg actually anywhere but the senior peg. In other words STOP BEATING ME. That goes for most members of the club as well. Stop it, just stop it.

We are getting pretty desperate at the club our range captain, assistant range captain and assistant to the assistant are fairly diminutive, in fact the first 2 are probably the smallest in the club. I was highly amused to see Bruce jumping up and down in the bale press. I have no idea what he thought he was achieving, but boy it did look impressive. Now I'm not saying Bruce is a light weight but you would have to wet him with a hose to give him any chance of stomping out a cigarette butt. Never mind a nice softly packed butt is better than nothing.
Scores for the day:
Coins Alastair 388, BP Glenn 378, Cola Karen 374, Granddad Cec 366, BC Liam 362, Cup cake Gloria 358, Teabag 348, Finger Ray 320 BB, Kiss of Death Stewart 312, Grey Nomad Bruce 258 BB.
Several members are travelling to Taree next week for the Branch Titles. Some members may turn up at the club but I doubt if there will be any club gear or a BBQ and all the club coaches will be away.
I didn't write the handicap results down and can only remember a couple. Kiss of Death came 9th Cupcake 2nd and Liam is the overall first place. I think.
Take care travel safe

IFAa & ABA 22/6/13

Hi all, what an awful day. Gale-force winds, snow followed by sleet and rain, the sky was so dark you needed a torch just to move around. The creek was in full flow and we actually lost 3 seniors down the raging river sized creek, trees were knocked over and all of the ranges were totally destroyed. The club house was last seen crashing into a large gum tree, smashing into bits and slowly sinking below the murky waters. Those that were there will realise that non of that is exactly true but week after week I say how fantastic the day was and it is getting to the point that nobody will believe me so I thought I would change the mental image.
The toilets are getting closer to completion, which is something I for one really appreciate after all I only have a limited holding capacity

8 members took advantage of the morning International IFAA round 10 targets , 3 arrows per target max. score 150. This is the first time I have shot this range and it would be one of the best IFAA ranges in the country. Well done to all involved a really top effort and one the club should be truly proud off. Scores.
Coins Alastair 135. Cola Karen 131, Don't tie with me Brett 125, BC Liam 122, Home Brew Garry 121, Cupcake Gloria 115, Tea bag 98, Leach bait Bruce 16.
I would like to thank my good mate Bruce for making sure I didn't come last. Thanks Bruce. Liam passed on a classic bit of advice to his Dad, It went something like this, " I focused the sight really hard and then gently squeezed of the trigger," Trouble is Dad doesn't have a sight or a trigger. Never mind I enjoyed the advice.
Afternoon 3 Arrow scores:
Coins Alastair 390, Don't tie with me Brett 386, Granddad Cec and Home brew Garry 376,Cupcake Gloria 368, Martin Mc Fly 364, BC Liam 360, Cola Karen 358, Fingers Ray 352 BB, BP Glenn 350, Hitchhiker Dion 338, Kiss of Death Stewart 326, Leach Bait Bruce 308 BB, Jonty 222 BB, Teabag 188.

ABA 1 arrow and AGM 15/6/13

Hi all, well the AGM has come & gone. Only a few small things have changed so be sure to read the minutes when you get them.
If I have this right there will be a working "B" next Sunday . On Saturday the 22 starting at 10.30am we will be offering the IFAA international round. Very formal way of saying be there at 10.30 and shoot lots of arrows.
This weekend was a mixture of the good, the bad and the ugly. The weather was beautiful some scores were normal some were disappointing, nobody really burnt up the range. I shot with Karen & Gloria and I must say I had a great time. It took me a little while to get in touch with my feminine side, but once I did the afternoon was pure joy. Thanks Girls.
Scores for the day are: wait for it........Now.

ABA 3 arrow 8/6/13

Sorry this is late but we only just got back from Qld. Still better late than never.
Oh how fortunes ebb and flow with this game of archery. Only Cec Apps and Garry Ward shot a better result than last week, and only two shooters managed a clean round (that is only needing one arrow per target). First place was elusive for Karen Smedley for the third week in a row, this time beaten by husband Alastair.

All current members are invited to the AGM which will be held this Saturday 15th June 2013.

Scores (max 400): Alastair Smedley 380, Karen Smedley 376, Garry Ward 376, Cec Apps 372, Glenn Freeman 372, Liam Crawford 368, Chris Garrett 368,  Ray McManus 342, Stewart Benington 324.

ABA & IFAA club shoot 25th May

A quiet weekend at the archery club, with some members travelling to Singleton for an away shoot.  In the morning the updated IFAA range was put to the test to check that all the distances were correct (IFAA is a variation of the game where you shoot a known distance).  It was a great shoot and we plan to have club IFAA shoots from next month, held on Saturday mornings.  A big thank you to Alastair Smedley for getting the range up and running again.

We had just five members shoot the Anthill range in the afternoon. It would have been six except Alastair forgot to bring his quiver which meant no arrows, or release aid and hense no shooting. Cec Apps managed to get to the first target and then realised he hadn't put his scope on the bow and had to go back to the club house to retrieve it before he could start.  A day of forgetfullness. During the shoot it was all very close with the scores at the half way mark with only a couple of points between everyone.  The second half then proved more challenging and with the light fading fast the last couple of targets were much harder to see and had an impact on the end results.

Scores (max 400): Brett Hodgman 380, Karen Smedley 378, Glenn Freeman 376, Cec Apps 372, Ray McManus 360.

As an add to Cupcake & Teabag travelled to Singleton, the weather was fantastic all weekend and didn't have a cloud in the sky from Friday lunch time till Monday morning. Cupcake battled Annette Trethewey all weekend and they both shot the same score on the Sunday. Teabag came second after being thrashed in the 1 arrow round. Great weekend had by all.
Till next time

ABA lots of arrows round 18/5/13

Hi every body,
Well young Robin Hood would have been proud of his band of merry archers at the weekend. Once again the weather was perfect for archery. Teabag & Cupcake had a DNF mainly because Cupcake's gear retired, I just love it when the problem isn't caused by me.
22 of us trotted of into the thick dense almost impenetrable Tam Ban forest. After many years shooting we still are not sure what mysteries lurk deep within our range, why only the other day Fingers disappeared for several hours, before re-appearing in a rather dazed and confused state. A rumour quickly circulated about strange creatures and possible medical examinations. Poor Fingers!!
Scores are below, if you didn't shoot 376 you are just plain odd.
As you can tell by the rubbish above we had to leave early so I don't really know what happened.
Next week is the branch 3D titles at SAS and several members will be attending. The club will still function but not sure about lunch.
Till next time
